本研究は常時脱落と交換を繰り返すメダカ咽頭歯を用いた歯の再生実験モデルの確立を目的に計画されたものであり、咽頭歯骨部の構造基盤と歯の発生・発達・交換の全容を初めて光顕、電顕レベルで明らかにした。更に同部の器官培養系を立ち上げて歯胚とその関連細胞の分化・機能維持が可能な培養条件を決定した。本メダカ咽頭歯骨部器官培養系は歯の発生・発達に伴う機能分子の消長とvivoでの確認が困難な咽頭歯脱落・交換のリアルタイム観察が可能であり、歯の再生研究への活用が期待される。
