従来, インド国内の石窟寺院の造営時期は前期石窟と後期石窟とに明確に区分され, その間に造営中断期を設定して論説されてきました。しかし, 本研究で造営中断期に塔院(礼拝堂)と僧院を同一窟内に造営する事例を確認し, 5世紀以降の後期石窟で主流となる先駆的形態の出現確認と, その結果として造営中断期の設定自体の再検討という, 重要な成果を獲得しました。あわせて, 看過されていた中小石窟の現状報告が保存・修復の必要性を提起し, 保存修復や復元事業の契機になることも期待できます。

In recent years, the construction period of grottoes and temples in China has been clearly distinguished from the early grottoes and the late grottoes, and the interruption period of construction has been set. In this study, we confirm the case of the construction of the pagoda (ritual hall) and monastery in the same cave during the interruption period, confirm the appearance of the main stream of the cave in the late 5th century, and re-examine the setting of the interruption period, and obtain important results. After reading the report on the status quo of small and medium-sized grottoes, I raised the necessity of preservation and restoration, and looked forward to the opportunity of preservation and restoration.
