17世紀後半,インド西岸の交易都市(スラト,バローダ等)には,主として東インド会社の交易活動に伴い西欧の建築文化が流入すると同時に,それらはムガール朝の建築様式と混じり合い,独特の発展を見た。特に,霊廟建築はその墓地のあり方(都市計画的にも,死生観という点でも)は,特徴的であり,商人達によって祖国にその文化が伝えられたと考えられる。本年度は,平成18年度にインド・デリーの国立公文書館付属考古学協会中央図書館及び,インド考古学協会ヴァドダラ支部において,これらの霊廟建築に関する図面資料の収集,またスラトの英国人墓地およびオランダ人墓地の現地調査によって得られた情報を元に分析を行った。また,18世紀初頭のロンドンにおいて複数の建築家によって提案された郊外型墓地との比較検討を行った。これらの結果,インドにおける墓地及び霊廟建築(特にスラトのオランダ人墓地)と英国において提案された郊外型墓地との間に様式上の興味深い類似点が確認された。このことは本研究の主題でもある英国における風景概念の生成が18世紀初頭の埋葬文化,特に霊廟建築と墓地のあり方と強く結びついていることを考えると極めて興味深い事実であると言えよう。本研究の期間内には,残念ながらインドにおける霊廟の所有者や建立年,設計者,また墓地の計画者といった事柄に関する,文献資料を十分に掘り起こすことができなかったため,インドにおける霊廟文化の英国への影響という点を実証的な観点から十分に検討するには至らなかった。今後の課題といえるだろう。

In the second half of the 17th century, the trading cities of the West Bank were dominated by the trading activities of the East and West European companies, accompanied by the influx of Western European architectural culture. At the same time, the architectural styles of the West Bank were mixed and unique developments were seen. As a result, the cemetery and temple buildings (especially the cemetery) and the British cemetery proposal were confirmed to be interesting and similar. The theme of this study is the creation of the concept of landscape in Britain at the beginning of the 18th century. The burial culture, especially the temple architecture, is strong and complex. During the period of this study, the owner of the temple, the year of its establishment, the designer, the planner of the cemetery, and the relevant literature data were collected. Future issues are discussed.
