階層のある社会における文化伝達の過程を数理モデル化し、繁殖率や生存率を犠牲にして社会的地位の獲得に努める行動が、文化伝達によって普及するための条件を求めた。また、ヒトを含む動物における配偶・繁殖行動の進化と、個体の利得を犠牲にしてグループの利得を増大させる行動の進化について数理モデルを用いた研究を行った。さらに、ヒトの配偶者選択における社会学習の影響について検討するため、日本人の既婚・未婚カップルを対象とした実験を行った。
