项目摘要

平成19年12月に採取しかバリ島のブヤン湖の3.57メートルの堆積物のAMS年代測定か実施した結果、このコアは過去8000年間の古記録を記録していることが明らかとなった。しかもコアには年縞堆積物のある部分とない部分が交互に発見された。バリ島は南緯8度前後に位置し、現在の気候はほとんど季節性がなく年縞は形成されていない。年縞が形成されるためには、バリ島の気候が現在とは著しく異なり季節性をもったものであったとみなす必要がある。堆積物は5mm-10mm間隔で花粉分析用のサンプルを採取し、現在分析を継続中であり、平成21年5月までには終了する予定であるが、これまで明らかになったことは年縞の存在する部分においては大量の炭片が出現し、かつ花粉の多様性が高く、現在とは異なった気候環境の存在が指摘できる。花粉分析を行うために、東南アジアの原生植物花粉のコレクションがある国立オーストラリア大学に行き、280種の現生花粉標本を採取し、データベースを作成した。またコアのXRF分析を1mm間隔実施するために、中国のXunの母校に高精度のXRFスキャンがあり、コアを中国で分析する。一方ニュージーランドについては、マオリによる活動がいかに自然を改変したかを解明するために、マオリの居主したダイアモンド湖のコアとマオリが居住しなかったトーマス湖のコアの花粉分析と炭片の分析を実施した。その結果南島の森には、マオリによる火を使用した活動が大きなインパクトを与えていることが明らかとなった。
