本年度は、昨年度に引き続き、ジョン・ロックの政治・経済論に自然法学が与えた思想的影響を解明することを目的として、ザームエル・プーフェンドルフ『自然法と万民法』の仏訳者ジャン・バルベイラックが同書の序文として執筆した『道徳科学の歴史的・批評的解説』の精読に取り組んだ。バルベイラックにおいて、道徳は政治と自然法を包含し、「身分に応じて各人がどのように行動すべきかを知るために必要な全てのもの」と定義される。彼は後期ストア派の哲学者の言説を援用し、いかなる人間も区別なく、道徳的義務の規範を知る能力を有すると主張する。また、道徳科学は数学と同様に論証可能な科学であるという『人間知性論』の議論を紹介している。道徳科学の不確実性と矛盾を唱える懐疑論者に対しては、それはある特殊な状況における場合や理性を誤用した結果にすぎないと論駁する。彼はセネカ『倫理書簡集』のラテン語の一文を引用する際に、「自然は我々に道徳科学の種子を与えたが、[道徳]科学それ自体を与えたのではない」と翻訳し、さらに、創造主が要求する義務について、正しい観念を形成するのに十分な能力を人間は生来備えていると述べ、ウィリアム・シャーロックに対してロックの「生得観念」否定論を擁護している。ロックは『教育に関する諸考察』で、人間の自然権、社会の起源と基礎、社会から生じる義務を若者に教導する著作として『自然法と万民法』を推奨する。彼はその他にも、ピエール・ニコル『道徳に関するエッセイ』中の三論文を英訳し、早くから人間知性、道徳、啓示宗教に関心を抱いていた。ロックの主著『統治二論』と『人間知性論』の前提となる人間・学問観を考察する上で、道徳は重要なテーマと思われる。上記の研究の途中経過を経済学史研究会で報告し、研究課題に関連した著作の書評を学会誌に投稿した。
