项目摘要

本年度は、(1)幕末維新期における日独関係の基礎を築いたプロイセン東アジア遠征をテーマとする博士論文の執筆を進め、また(2)ドイツ・オランダにおいて短期の研究調査旅行を実施した。以下、(1)・(2)の具体的内容を略記し、(3)でその意義を述べる。(1)博士論文執筆:プロイセン東アジア遠征は、東アジアとドイツ諸国との間の通商関係樹立のため、プロイセン政府が1860〜62年にかけ日本・中国・シャムへ派遣した外交使節団である。博士論文は、(1)同遠征実施の誘因となった19世紀中期における東アジア・世界情勢の変容過程を明らかにした上で、(2)遠征が幕末動乱期の日本に英・米諸列強に遅れて到来するに当たって生じた諸問題を、マルチ・アーカイヴァルな手法に基づき、実証的に解明することをねらいとしている。この博士論文を構成する章として、本年度は一連の論考を執筆した。学会誌『洋学』17(2008年度)号(査読有・未公刊)への掲載が決定している論文「19世紀中期の東アジアとドイツ諸国」、及び後記「研究成果欄」に記載した、学会発表「日蘭追加条約をめぐる「誤解」に関する考察」は、その成果の一部である。(2)研究調査旅行:年度末にはベルリン・ライデンを計3週間の日程で訪問し、プロイセン枢密文書館、ベルリン国立図書館、ライデン大学図書館等で資料調査・収集を行った。その結果、19世紀中期の日本・東アジア情勢に関する欧米側理解、プロイセン東アジア遠征、及び幕末のオランダ対日政策に関する、一連の貴重な外交一次史料・文献を入手した。オランダでは加えて、幕末日蘭関係史の専門家であるヘルマン・ムースハルト博士を訪問し、研究上の指導を受けた。(3)意義:幕末の日本開国史については、国内的な政治・外交過程分析、及び日米・日英関係史などの観点から、多くの研究が蓄積されてきた。しかしそこでは、遅れた近代化過程の渦中にあったドイツが、プロイセン東アジア遠征によって日本・東アジアの開国過程に遅れて参と与した際、その「遅れ」の故に、どのような特徴的な諸問題に遭遇し、日本開国過程にいかなる影響を及ぼしたのか、といった問題は、全く考慮されてこなかった。本研究の意義は、プロイセン東アジア遠征の実施過程をこのような観点から分析することによって、日本近代化の出発点となった幕末史を、19世紀中期の世界史的潮流の中に置き直そうとする点にある。
