本研究では、第1に山口県田布施町郷土館が所蔵する岸信介関係資料のうち、日記、手帳、書簡を整理し、戦後とりわけ1960年代の岸の行動を追跡した。第2に、これらの資料と、既公開の日記やオーラル・ヒストリー記録を用いて、1960年代以降を政治史の対象として分析した。第3に、その際の焦点に、岸の政党構想・国家構想と、1982年の岸の自民党最高顧問就任を選び、その意義を明らかにした。
