The development of synthetic dye industry in Japan and the process of introduction of dyestuffs : Toward comparative research

本研究从多个角度探讨了战前日本合成染料工业的发展历程；供给侧，需求侧和政府政策。在日本，几乎所有用于国内消费的合成染料都依赖于一战爆发前从德国进口。本研究阐明了日本合成染料工业的产生和发展过程。同时，本研究也着重于与日本现代制浆造纸工业等其他化学工业的比较，以及人们如何引进合成染料作为一种新材料，为今后的国际比较打下基础。

This research explored the process of development of the synthetic dye industry in the prewar Japan from various views ; supply side, demand side and government policies. In Japan, almost all of the synthetic dyestuff for domestic consumption depended on the import from Germany just before the outbreak of WWI. This research clarified how Japanese synthetic dye industry emerged and developed. At the same time, this research also focused on the comparison with other chemical industry such as modern pulp and paper industry in Japan as well as how people introduced synthetic dyestuffs as a new material for groundwork for international comparison in the future.
