ホンヤドカリ属を対象として、オスとメスの成長と繁殖の資源配分様式を調べた。本属の一部の種では、交尾直前にメスが脱皮することがあり、繁殖期中にも成長する。本研究の結果、脱皮する個体は、とくに産卵間隔が長い傾向が強く、抱卵数も変異が大きかった。オスも配偶行動によって摂餌行動が抑制されるため、繁殖に費やす時間の増加が成長を低下させることが示唆されたが、実験ではそれを強く支持する結果は得られなかった。
