水性高分子-イソシアネート接着剤(以下API)の耐熱性向上を図るため、粘土鉱物の一種であるモンモリロナイトをAPIのベースポリマー(PVA、SBR、EVA)に添加し、これに架橋剤としてイソシアネート化合物を添加した系のフィルム物性や木材接着性能の検討を行った。その結果、モンモリロナイトを添加したPVA水溶液の粘度は、撹拌時間の増加に伴い増加した。また、X線回折によりモンモリロナイトの層間隔の広がりが確認され、撹拌によりPVAとの相互作用が増大したことが示唆された。一方、高温度域での弾性率が未添加系に比べ10倍程度高い値を示した。木材接着試験においても高温度域での接着性能が大きくなり、耐熱性の向上が明らかとなった。
