肺気腫に対して、従来の肺容量減少手術(LVRS)に、再生医療を導入した新しい治療法、すなわち、気腫肺に効果的に成長因子を到達させる具体的な方法として、自己脂肪組織から分離した間葉系細胞を足場に培養付着させ貼布する細胞シート法、および細胞を用いず担体から直接成長因子を放出するDrug Delivery System (DDS)の臨床応用の可能性を動物実験において明らかにした。
