光干渉断層画像を用いて不安定冠動脈粥腫の主体である、脂質コアと薄い繊維性被膜を定量的に測定し、アトルバスタチンを無作為に高用量と低用量に振り分け1年間投与がそれらに与える影響について調査したところ、冠動脈プラークの体積、OCTで計測された繊維性被膜厚、Lipidpool最大角度の変化には両群間で有意な差を認めることができなかった。しかし、本研究で冠動脈不安定粥腫を生体内で検出可能であることが証明され、それら冠動脈不安定粥腫は冠動脈の特定の部位に分布していることがわかった。
