Aeromonas属細菌感染症が重症化する機序に関する検討はなされていない。細菌の産生するヒアルロニダーゼが重症化に関与していると考え、臨床由来のAeromonashydrophilaからヒアルロニダーゼを分離、精製し遺伝子配列を決定した。他の関連遺伝子とともに水平伝播していることが推察された。また、ヒアルロニダーゼ遺伝子をノックアウトした菌株を作製し、動物実験モデルへ発展させる予定である。
