Horntail wasps with the symbiotic fungus cause star-shaped discoloration of the wood of Cryptomeria japonica (Sugi) and Chamaecyparis obtusa (Hinoki) through transmission of the symbiotic fungus at the time of oviposition. So, it is important to understand the mechanisms of oviposition preference related volatiles from the host plants. It is cleared that monoterpenoids and sesquiterpenoids were a major constituents from the host plants, especially, α-pinene was the most major components, which had attractive activity to the horntail wasps. It was clarified that the symbiotic fungus in the host plant makes qualitative and quantitative changes of the volatiles emitted from the host plant.
