A Comparative Study on the Role of Social Capital in Rural Common-Pool Resources Management in Japan and China

本研究利用日本和中国的农村社区数据，探讨了社会资本在农村公共资源管理中的作用。我们的主要发现如下。(1)日本农村社区社会资本和社会异质性在农村公共资源管理中起着重要作用。（ii）中国农村社区的社会异质性对水资源管理者通过利益分配渠道进行资源管理的可能性或成功与否具有决定性影响。结果表明，农村社区社会异质性是中日两国农村公共池资源管理的共同因素之一。

This research investigates the role of social capital in the management of rural common-pool resources using the community-level data of rural communities collected in Japan and China. Our main findings are as follows. (i) Social capital and social heterogeneity in rural communities play significant roles in the management of rural common-pool resources in Japan. (ii) Social heterogeneity in rural communities in China has a determinant impact on the likelihood or success of resource management through benefit distribution channels by water managers. These results indicate that social heterogeneity in rural communities is one factor common to Japan and China in rural common pool resource management.
