中枢性化学受容機構解明のため、ラット延髄由来神経系初代培養細胞において、多波長同時観察ユニットを組み合わせた特殊高速高感度光計測システムを用い、細胞外pH変化、高CO2負荷による細胞内Ca応答及びpH応答のイメージング化に成功した。この解析結果から、細胞内Ca応答は細胞外pH変化ではなく、高CO2負荷による細細胞内H+濃度上昇に起因している仮説が示唆された。穿孔パッチクランプ法によっても高CO2負荷による脱分極が観察されたが、Na電流は検出されないことから、グリア細胞がCO2感受性を持っている可能性が示唆された。
