難治性疾患である炎症性腸疾患の予防および治療を目指し、これまで報告の少ないプロバイオティクス候補菌を用いて研究を行った。炎症性腸疾患類似腸炎発症モデルマウスを用いて検討を行った。候補菌の経口投与によって腸炎発症に伴う、体重減少や肉眼的な炎症の程度の抑制が見られた。また炎症性サイトカインmRNAの発現抑制が見られた。細胞レベルにおいても候補菌の添加によって炎症を抑制することを見出し、炎症性腸疾患に対して有益な効果をもたらす可能性を明らかにした。
