本年度は、以下の三つの研究を行った。(1)水戸学の重要な学者である會澤正志齋の経書注釈(『読論日札』・『典護述義』・『読書日札』など)を詳細に検討し、正志齋がどのような先行説を摂取し、自己の思想を構築したのかを明らかにした。この作業によって、正志齋の思想が、江戸期の反宋学的思想(とりわけ伊藤仁斎と荻生徂徠)の蓄積に立脚したものであることが明らかになった。祭祀論に限らず、広い視野から正志齋の学問を見ることで、従来関心を集めてきた徂徠学との関係についても、新たな見解を示すことが出来た。(2)「直言」による説得を避け、修辞をこらした婉曲な表現によって相手の自発的な理解を得るという徂徠の議論について考察した。徂徠だけでなく、賀茂真淵や本居宣長、富士谷御杖にも同様の主張が見られ、説得以外の合意形成の手法が江戸期の思想家によって模索されていたことが解明された。近世後期における「公議」「公論」思潮の勃興は、これまで研究されてきたが、これとは別にそもそも説得自体に懐疑的な思想の流れが存在したことが、本研究によって明確になった。(3)徂徠学派の大多数は「史論」を執筆しておらず、徂徠学派に反発した人々が盛んに「史論」を著したことについて分析した。寛政正学派の学問の特徴は、この「史論」の重視にある。「史論」における計略及び政治的決断の重視が、頼山陽の『通議』などの著作に影響を及ぼしていることを明らかにした。
