Signaling lymphocyte activation molecule (SLAM) is a major cellular receptor for morbilliviruses. The complete nucleotide sequences of SLAM cDNA from five species of cetacean, pinniped and sirenian, were determined and the three-dimensional models were generated. We found some amino acid residues on the V domains of the SLAMs, which possibly affect the binding with the viral protein and host-virus specificity. The variation among cetacean species was found at 13 amino acid residue positions. The change of residues position at 68, 82, 90, and 130, were thought to affect the binding with virus.
