项目摘要

本研究は、アラスカ先住民社会の物語継承の取り組みを調査し、特有の言語観酒養のプロセスを知り、日本における文学教育のあり方を模索するものである。平成22年度は、日本で幼少期からの物語教育がどのように実施できるのかを考えるため、二つのことを行った。一つは、実際に物語教育が有用かを再確認するために小・中学校の現状を知ることである。特に子供の言語に対する意識や問題を端的に示すものと考え、言葉によるいじめの現状を児童相談所の調査報告から探った。もう一つは、アラスカ及びカナダ西部で物語継承の体系的なプログラムがあるか否かについての情報収集である。前者の研究では、インターネットや電子メールの普及に伴い、一斉に不特定多数へ情報を発信でき、発信者自体を隠すこともできるため、大人から見えない所で言葉のいじめがエスカレートして深刻化している実情が分かった。大河原美以氏が指摘するように、言葉の意味は理解しながら感情では理解できない子供も多く、幼児期から不快感情も含めて感情を豊かに育てる教育や、言葉を使う責任を考えさせる教育の必要性が感じられた。後者の調査、即ち先住民族による体系的なプログラムの有無については、カナダのブリティッシュ・コロンビア州で1994年から様々な先住民集団を巻き込んで実施された'The First Nations Journeys of Justice'のプログラムが見つかった。ストーリーテリングという伝統的教育方法を用いて、先住民の視点から正義の概念を教えることを目的に作られたもので、幼稚園から7年生まで8つのグレード別に構成されている。100名のストーリーテラーを調査し、カリキュラム開発や物語選定、テキスト作成等に2年費やされていること、8年の継続プログラムであること、先住民にとって重要な概念について議論が重ねられそれを具現化する物語が選ばれていること、プログラムに携わった大人もまた物語内容に影響を受けていることなどが特徴的である。平成23年夏期にこのプログラムを見学して、既に調査したアラスカでの個別の取り組みと対照させながら内容をまとめて発表の予定である。
