In the 1980s the emergence of Japanese Companies as remarkably competitive manufacturers in the global markets urged researchers to look into the institutional arrangements which made Japanese companies competitive. One of the factors which were supposed to help companies to be competitive was the participation of workers in daily management at shop floors. Despite the fact that participation of workers has been accepted as a factor contributing to'Japanese Success', few research has been done on the relation of the practice of management and actual working of industrial relations in an enterprise.This study tries to mend the research situation which has so far failed to identify the causal relation between the practice of management and the development of industrial relations at enterprise level by focusing on one of representative enterprise and analyzing the behavior of management and labor unions in such enterprise.

20世纪80年代，日本公司作为全球市场上极具竞争力的制造商的出现，促使研究人员研究使日本公司具有竞争力的制度安排。被认为有助于公司竞争力的因素之一是工人参与车间的日常管理。尽管工人的参与已被认为是促成“日本成功”的一个因素，但很少有关于企业管理实践与劳资关系实际运作之间关系的研究。本研究以一家具有代表性的企业为研究对象，对该企业的管理层行为和工会行为进行分析，试图弥补以往研究未能明确企业层面的管理实践与劳资关系发展之间因果关系的不足。
