Association between periodontal treatment and metabolic syndrome

本研究探讨牙周治疗对慢性牙周炎（CP）患者血清瘦素及其他细胞因子水平的影响。抽取33例CP患者（非吸烟者22例，吸烟者11例）和18例健康受试者的血清样本。测定非手术牙周治疗前后血清瘦素、脂联素、肿瘤坏死因子(TNF)-A、白细胞介素(IL)-6、c反应蛋白（CRP）水平。牙周治疗在降低血清瘦素、IL-6和CRP水平方面是有效的。结果提示瘦素、IL-6和CRP可能是代谢综合征和牙周炎之间的中介因子。

This study investigated the effects of periodontal treatment on the serum levels of leptin and other cytokines in patients with chronic periodontitis (CP). Serum samples were taken from 33 CP patients (22 non-smokers, 11 smokers) and 18 healthy subjects. The serum leptin, adiponectin, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-A, interleukin (IL)-6, and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were measured before and after non-surgical periodontal treatment. Periodontal treatment is effective in reducing serum leptin, IL-6, and CRP levels. The results suggest that leptin, IL-6, and CRP could be mediating factors that connect metabolic syndrome and periodontitis.
