项目摘要

本年度は2か所においてフィールドワークを行った。1つは奄美大島の南部の湯湾集落の方言についてである。もう1つは南琉球の波照間島の方言についてである。伝統的な方言のアクセントについては、いずれにおいても3型の体系を持っていることがわかった。しかし、3型と言ってもそれぞれに違いがあることも明らかになった。湯湾方言においてはprosodic wordが3モーラまでの長さだとアクセントの違いが表出せず、2型アクセントのように見える。これは語頭から2つ目にアクセントが置かれる型と、語末から2つ目にアクセントが置かれる型が同じになってしまうからである。なお、語末だけが高くなるもう1つの型については混同されることはない。波照間方言の場合は3型アクセントであるが、祖語からの歴史的な変化という観点でみた場合に、3型アクセント→2型アクセント→3型アクセントのような変化を遂げていることがうかがわれる。3型アクセントではあるが、類別語彙の区分が他の琉球諸方言とは異なっているからである。これは一旦合流をした後に再びアクセント型が分かれたと考えるのが妥当である。また、3型でありながら、ミニマルトリオは非常に少ないことも傍証である。アクセント型が分かれた契機としては、語頭音の違いが考えられる。いずれの地点においても伝統的方言語彙のみならず標準語語彙(外来語)の調査も行っている。その結果、外来語は1つのアクセント型に集約し、そのピッチパターンは世代の下った若い話者にも表れやすい傾向があるようである。
