本研究は、インタヴュー調査と文献資料の収集・分析に基づいて、戦後日本のハンセン病療養所において生起した多様な集合的実践の生成・展開過程を明らかにするとともに、隔離政策下に置かれた人々にとっての集合的実践の意味や効果について考察することを目的とする。対象時期は、第二次世界大戦終戦(1945年)から現在までとする。申請者は、平成22年度は、博士論文を執筆していた。博士論文のタイトルは『国立ハンセン病療養所における集合的実践-政治的実践・文化的実践・生活実践を事例として』である。本論文は、2010年6月4日、調査委員3名が論文内容とそれに関連した事柄について試問した結果、合格と認められた。本論文は、平成24年度中に、著書として世界思想社より刊行される予定である。申請者は、平成23年度は、本著の刊行に向けて、博士論文で検討が不十分であった点について聴き取り調査と文字資料の収集を進めてきた。具体的には、他の隔離施設の集団との関係性を調べるため、東京の結核研究所や、国立国会図書館等で、資料収集を行った。また、著書執筆の途中で、データ的にやや手薄と思われる箇所があったので、各地の療養所(多摩全生園・長島愛生園など)で補充調査を実施した。さらに、北九州に在住の元ハンセン病療養所入所者(現・退所者)の自宅に数回訪問し、聴き取り調査を行った。療養所退所者を対象とする同様の調査を、関東・関西地区でも実施した。
