23年度に生息地の破壊のために、インドネシア・スラバヤ動物園に移入されたテングザルの研究を行うために、22年4～5月にかけて回収した糞のDNA解析を行った。これは、テングザルに特徴的な重層社会を解明するために、群間・群内の血縁度を測定することを目的とした。しかし、これまでテングザルで糞からのDNA抽出が比較的困難なために、様々な保存方法で取得した糞の濃度を測ることから始めた。そのために、岐阜大学において、DNA濃度の測定を行った。その結果、糞からDNAを抽出することが困難であるといわれているテングザルでも、比較的多く抽出することが確認された。残念ながら、測定を行った後に、機関として科研費の管理ができない企業への就職が決定し、本格的な解析が継続できなくなってしまった。今後のテングザルの研究、特に野生群において、糞からのDNA抽出は絶対的に必要になると思われるので、時間があるときにこの結果をまとめていくつもりである。23年度は、スラバヤ動物園に再度訪れて、全頭捕獲を行い、血液を採取する予定だったが、動物園の園長が解任され、暫定的な園長では許可が取れず、正式な園長の就任を待っていたが、前述のように就職が決まり、行くことができなくなってしまった。この動物園は、3群の単雄複雌群と1群の全雄群が半野生状態で飼育されているので、観察が困難なテングザルの生態を研究するには非常によい場所であると考えられる。今後、この動物園での研究が行われるのを期待したい。また、スラバヤ動物園からよこはま動物園ズーラシアにテングザルがレンタルされているので、このサルも研究する予定であった。しかし、震災のために、連絡がとれず、本格的な研究を始めることができなかった。
