Western influence on astronomical and land-survey instruments of the Edo periods was investigated at both domestic and overseas sites. The main outcomes are as follows:(1) We made a nation-wide survey investigation of octants and sextants produced or imported before the Meiji Restoration (1868). We found out 10 items including some new discoveries and made mutual comparisons in terms of their specifications and characteristics.(2) We made clear the import situation in 1792 of an advanced portable astronomical quadrant by discovering some letters written by the then director of the Dutch East India Company at Nagasaki.(3) We organized the 7th International Conference on Oriental Astronomy (ICOA-7) and published its conference proceedings.

在国内外考察了江户时代的天文和土地测量仪器受到西方的影响。主要研究结果如下：（1）对明治维新（1868年）以前生产或进口的八分规和六分规进行了全国性的调查。找出了10个项目，其中包括一些新的发现，并就其规格和特点进行了相互比较。(2)1792年，我们发现了当时在长崎的荷兰东印度公司董事写的一些信件，从而弄清了先进的便携式天文象限仪的进口情况。(3)我们组织了第七届东方天文学国际会议（ICOA-7），并出版了会议论文集。
