Comparison of courtship display behaviours between green and Indian peafowl (genus Pavo)

Comparing the courtship display behaviours between two extant peafowl species (genus Pavo) will provide some insight into the past evolution of male display traits and sex differences. Males of the green peafowl were exactly like their Indian congeners in the display using the train (long feathers with eyespots), although they differed in their calls, which showed fewer sex differences. The evolutionary steps inferred by the study are that development of the display using the train in males may have occurred in the common ancestor of these two species and been followed by changes in male and female vocalisations.
