A Genealogy of Obshchestvennost' (the public) and Civic Agency in Modern and Contemporary Russia

这项研究着眼于18世纪末开始流传的俄语术语obshchestvennost‘(公共)的含义以及政治和社会功能的变化，考察了从19世纪下半叶到苏联末期大约100年间各种社会团体进行的多方面的公共和公民活动。通过这部作品，揭示了俄罗斯近现代国家与社会关系的新面貌--强国与弱社会的形象。部分研究成果以英文论文的形式提交给本课题组组织的两次国际会议。

This study that focused on changes of the meaning and political and social functions of obshchestvennost'(the public), a Russian term, whic had started to circulate in the late eighteenth century, examined multifaceted public and civic activities conducted by various social groups during approximately one hundred years spanning from the latter half of the nineteenth century to the late Soviet period. Through the work, it gave a new light to the state-society relations in modern and contemporary Russia, which has been informed by the image of strong state and week society. A part of the reseach results was submitted as several papers writen in English to two internatinal conferences that this research group organized.
