Membrane protein is an important target for drug discovery. In this study, using solid state NMR, we have developed a method to detect a signal from a target membrane protein expressed on the cell surface. Special isotope labeling technique enabled to suppress the background signals and enhanced the signal-to-noise ratio. Finally we succeeded to detect NMR signals of the target membrane protein using live cells.
