Dynamics of hydration water around biomolecules monitored by x-ray and neutron crystallography

流动水对生物大分子的功能起着至关重要的作用。为了分析水合水的性质，我们对蛋白质和核苷酸晶体的结构转变进行了X射线和中子结晶学分析。还进行了理论计算。对于蛋白质周围的水合水，我们的结果与用中子散射、介电光谱和计算机模拟方法得到的结果一致。另一方面，揭示了核酸周围的水合水与蛋白质的水合水具有不同的性质。

Mobile hydration water plays a part of essential role for functions of biomacromolecules. In order to analyze characteristics of hydration water, we carried out X-ray and neutron crystallographic analysis of structure transitions of protein and nucleotide crystals. Theoretical calculations were also performed. Concerning the hydration water around proteins, our results were consistent with the reports using neutron scattering, dielectric spectroscopic, and computer simulation methods. On the other hand, it was revealed that the hydration water around nucleic acids would have some different character compared with that of proteins.
