This study aimed to clarify the situation regarding the life and death of elderly people living in nursing homes.Subjects were 8 elderly people (mean age: 87 years, mean care level: 3.5) living in nursing homes. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and we asked them to freely speak about their life and their own death. After preparing verbatim transcripts of the interview data, contents about life and death were extracted and categorized based on similarity. As ethical considerations, we closely followed the subjects and understood their life patterns, and interviews were conducted so as not to disturb the natural flow of their lives. The elderly people living in nursing homes [reflected on their lives] by [experiencing difficulties because life didn’t work out the way they had expected]. The results also revealed that they [tried to find the meaning of their own existence and meaning/purpose of life] while [being supported and healed by relationships with someone they can rely on].

本研究以8名养老院老人为研究对象，平均年龄87岁，平均照护水平3.5岁，旨在了解养老院老人的生死状况。我们进行了半结构化的采访，让他们畅所欲言地谈论自己的生活和死亡。在准备了访谈数据的逐字记录后，提取了关于生死的内容，并根据相似性进行了分类。出于伦理考虑，我们密切关注受试者，了解他们的生活模式，并进行采访，以免干扰他们生活的自然流畅。住在养老院的老人通过[经历困难，因为生活没有按照他们预期的方式发展]来反思自己的生活。结果还显示，他们[试图寻找自己存在的意义和生活的意义/目的]，同时[通过与他们可以依赖的人的关系来支持和治愈]。
