项目摘要

本研究の目的は、マヤ先住民地域において衰退していた伝統的生業の再開に着目し、伝統が継承される文化的論理を明らかにすることである。報告者は昨年度、研究対象となる村落で生業、祝祭、生活習慣などの民族誌調査、先行研究の精査を実施した。その中で、マヤ先住民村落において伝統的生業が維持される背景には、アイデンティティ・ポリティクスとしての側面があるということが明らかになった。そこで、「マヤ」としてのエスニック・アイデンティティと伝統的生業を継続するという行為の問にどのような関係性があるかを明らかにするため、新たに次のような調査課題を設定した。それは、1)アイデンティティを表す単語(マヤ語・スペイン語)の収集、2)それらの単語が使われるコンテクストを含めた意味の調査、3)政府やマス・メディア、研究者など様々な主体が、マヤをめぐって形成しようとする言説やイメージの調査である。今年度は、三点目の、マヤをめぐるイメージや言説がどのように発信されているかについての調査を重点的に行った。2012年のユカタン州では、約5125年周期のマヤの長期暦が新周期に入ることにちなみ、マヤをテーマにした多くの文化イベントが数多く開催された。報告者はマヤ世界大博物館の開館と「マヤ文化の祭典」に着目し、ユカタン州政府、研究者、マヤ先住民活動家等がどのようなマヤ文化像を形作ろうとしているのかについての検討を行った。その結果、様々な主体によって形成される言説やイメージは純粋な文化生産物ではなく、政治や資本に組み込まれた文化産業の商品であることが明らかになった。引き続き、様々な主体によって形成される言説やイメージが、実際の村落でいかに消費されているかを、先に挙げた1)、2)に従って調査する。また、その成果を伝統的生業継承の論理の検討に発展させることで、博士論文を完成させる計画である。
