项目摘要

本研究課題は、同時代人の心性に注目する立場から、鎌倉時代の幕府や朝廷、寺社や荘園社会におけるイデオロギー、アイデンティティ、コスモロジーなどについて総合的に検討を加え、日本中世国家論・社会論の更新を目指すものである。論文として、「中世の戦争をめぐる法慣習の心性―神社への避難・隠物と竹木伐採禁制を中心に―」を公表した。本論文では、中世の寺社においては、穢や斎の観念が排除の論理として作用しうること、また、中世の竹木について、中世前期の宗教的言説と中世後期の敷地境界機能とは意味合いが異なることに注意した。こうした分析は、歴史社会における心性と実態あるいは呪術と技術の両面に留意することで、無縁論やアジール論といった社会史研究において重視された視角を批判的に継承し、その歴史性を追究する試みである。口頭報告として、「鎌倉幕府の歴史意識・自己認識と政治社会動向」を発表した。本報告では、鎌倉幕府の故実・先例に代表される歴史意識とそれによって表現される自己認識について、幕府の政策・政局だけでなく、幕府内外の多様・多層な主体を考慮し、列島規模での政治社会動向をも視野に入れて、通時的・総合的に検討を行った。人々の心性や社会の実態から議論を立ち上げつつ、制度史・政治史上の諸事象を捉え返していくことで、鎌倉期の国家史研究をめぐる諸学説を止揚し、中世の国家像・社会像の再構築を目指すものである。具体的には、治承・寿永の戦争期の初期鎌倉幕府権力の性格を、前代以来の軍事貴族としての立場に則したものと捉えるとともに、鎌倉中後期の幕府が承久の乱などを契機としつつ、朝廷を相対化しうる「関東」のアイデンティティを醸成させていくものと捉え、幕府の国家史上の位置について動態的・段階的に把握することを試みた。
