本研究は、琉球語沖縄首里方言のモダリティについて、文の対象的な内容を重視しながら、包括的で体系的な記述研究を行うことを目的として、平成29年度は以下の内容で研究を行なった。1.【具体的な内容】面接調査は終了し、収集した用例を全て取りまとめ、博士論文の執筆に専念した。(1)実行・(2)叙述・(3)質問のモダリティを分類の軸とし、それぞれの文のモダリティの分析・記述に加え、標準日本語との比較・対照分析も行い、双方のモダリティに関する類似点および相違点を明らかにした。2.【研究成果】(1)実行文について特筆すべきは、「行かなければならない」のような評価を表す形式を述語に含む文にみられるように、述語の形式に関わらず、動作主体が二人称で、働きかけがあり、動作の実行が未実現の場合は、命令を表すことを明らかにした。それは、勧誘や依頼、禁止文でも同じ結果が得られ、述語の形式よりも、動作主体や働きかけ性、実行の実現性といった要素の分析が重要であることを主張した。(2)記述や評価の文では、聞き手めあて性や主張の強さ、直接確認の事象を表すか間接確認の事象を表すかの違いによって、様々な終助辞が様々な意味あいを表し分けていることを述べ、そのような文法的な要素の分析が重要であることを主張した。(3)質問文では、否定質問文が前提を表せない点、質問形式がモダリティごとに分化している点、イントネーションが関与しない点等の特徴を明らかにした。3.【意義・重要性】これまでモダリティ全般を網羅的に分析・記述した琉球語の研究はなかったため、本研究が今後の研究のモデルケースとなる可能性が高く、大きな貢献を成すものとして他の琉球語研究者達から高く評価された。特に、記述の文と評価の文について終助辞を含む文を分析した点や、質問のモダリティについて細かい分析と記述を行なったことが高く評価された。
