前期は、昨年度にウガンダ南西部で実施した調査の結果をまとめ、日本熱帯生態学会において発表した。発表では、ウガンダ南西部におけるバナナをめぐる農と食の近年の変容について論じた。また、上記の研究成果について、英語の短報を執筆し、山口大学教育学部研究論叢ならびにJapanese Journal of Tropical Agriculture誌に投稿した。2017年8月5日から20日にかけて、パプアニューギニアにおいてバナナ栽培にかんする現地調査を実施した。カメルーンの調査地における事例と同様に、焼畑における主食バナナの栽培と商品作物のカカオを組み合わせた実践が展開していることが明らかになり、本研究課題の目的である、「焼畑の潜在力」を引き出す条件を考察する事例として、興味深い情報・データを得ることができた。後期は、パプアニューギニアでの調査結果をまとめ、日本熱帯農業学会において発表した。また、これまでの焼畑にかんする調査で得られた成果をまとめ、英語論文の執筆をすすめた。現在、African Study Monographs 誌に投稿中である。さらに、第８７回民族自然誌研究会において「木かげの民族自然誌：茶・コーヒー・カカオのアグロフォレストリー」と題した例会を企画・発表した。研究会では、中部アフリカ・カメルーンのカカオ・アグロフォレストリー（AF）に加えて、中米・パナマのコーヒーAF、東南アジア・タイのチャAFを対象に調査をしている研究者が話題提供し、ディスカッションをおこなった。各地域のAFの実践は、いずれも焼畑の現代的な展開として理解できること、AFの景観は、社会経済的な背景に応じた人の管理と植生遷移の相互作用によって常に変化するという共通点のあることから、動態的に捉える視座が重要となることが明らかになった。以上の議論をふまえ、生態人類学会において発表をおこなった。
