项目摘要

本研究の目的は、人と動物が実際に結ぶ個別的な関係に注目することによって、従来主流であった功利主義や義務論とは異なる仕方で動物への配慮を主張するための枠組みを提出することである。本研究では、（A）個別の状況における動物への対応について、徳倫理およびケアの倫理に基づく場合と他の理論に基づく場合とを比較検討し、それらの理論が動物倫理に関してそれぞれもつ意義を明らかにすること、（B）徳倫理およびケアの倫理と他の理論との関係を特定し、両理論のもつ役割を明らかにすること、という２つの課題を設定している。今年度は、昨年度、博士論文において提示した枠組みについて、解決すべき課題として残された問題に取り組むことで、昨年度の研究をさらに進展させることに注力した。特に、動物をめぐるさまざまな現実の問題状況を参照し、博士論文で提出した枠組みを適用する際に考慮すべき事柄を検討することに取り組んできた。なかでも、人間にとって最も身近な問題であり、倫理的に深刻な問題となりうる肉食と「工場畜産」について、肉食がどれほど「必要」なものとして論じられうるのか、工場畜産はどれほど必要でありうるのかという観点から、その是非を検討している（論文「動物にたいする不必要な危害と工場畜産」）。また、博士論文では、動物倫理の議論の「説得」という観点に注目し、ある種の議論を提示するものとしての文学作品が果たしうる役割を検討したが、今年度は、説得のための表現として用いられる、「人間にたいする行為との類比」がどのような意義をもちうるのか、そしてそうした類比をおこなう際に考慮すべき事柄は何であるかを検討した（論文「動物倫理における動物と人間の類比」）。これまでの研究を通して、功利主義や義務論といった理論的立場に基づく動物倫理とは異なる仕方で動物への配慮を論じるひとつの枠組みを提供し、その洗練化を図ることができたと考える。
