平成29年度前期では、昨年度に引き続き、南洋理工大学での在外研究を行った。一方、後期では、在外研究の成果発表を、学会口頭発表ならびに雑誌論文、そして2018年1月末に神戸大学に提出した博士予備論文にまとめることに徹した。在外研究中は、主に、コミュニティ・アート事業への参与観察と関係者への聞き取り調査、文献収集を行った。参与観察では、政府系団体として人民協会と国立芸術評議会を、市民芸術団体としてCommunity Culture Development(Singapore)、Ageless Theatre、The Necessary Stageを対象とした。政府系機関のコミュニティ・アートに関しては、筆者がヴォランティアや参加者として参与観察を行った結果、「草の根組織」（日本でいうところの町内会組織）から多くの意見を聞くことができた。これらの参与観察の結果は、平成29年度の日本文化政策学会大会、平成30年度の国際文化政策研究会議（受理済み）等で口頭発表し、南洋理工大学教授らと国際雑誌特別号を出版する際に論文を発表する予定である。 市民芸術団体に関しては、Community Culture Developmentが行うチャイルド・センターにおけるコミュニティ・アートの事例研究を、英語での共著本に向けて執筆した。Ageless TheatreとThe Necessary Stageは、高齢者に対するコミュニティ演劇を提供する。これらの団体では、参与観察のほか、団と参加者の協力を得て、アンケート調査を行った。これらの事例研究は、平成30年度に成果発表をまとめたいと考えている。シンガポール国立図書館と国立公文書館での文献調査では、芸術文化活動における市民社会とネイション形成の変遷を捉えるため、昨年に引き続き、1970年代以降の人民協会のアニュアル・レポート等を収集した。

In the early part of 2009, Nanyang Technological University conducted research abroad.
