项目摘要

平成３０年度も昨年度と同様、研究指導委託制度を利用してイスタンブルに研究拠点を置いた。本研究はオスマン帝国の名のもとに存在していた中東・バルカンの地域的一体性が、近代においていかに崩壊したのかを鉄道を題材として検討することを目的としている。本年度は１．昨年度に引き続き軍事史関係の書籍を収集し、２．オスマン文書館での史料調査、３．イスタンブルやアンカラの図書館での先行研究の調査、４．アタテュルク文庫での定期刊行物の調査、５．アンカラにある参謀総局戦史戦略研究所文書館における陸軍にかんする史料の調査、６．イスタンブルやアンカラ以外のトルコ内外の都市・地方での調査や実見を行った。とくに５．は予想外に進展した部分である。従来、トルコ共和国軍参謀総局に属する戦史戦略研究所の文書館は、軍隊の政治的権威が強いトルコにおいてはある種の聖域をなしており、軍人以外の利用が極めて難しい文書館であった。しかし軍事史研究者の努力もあり、貴重な史料へのアクセスが可能になってきた。報告者はイスタンブルで知り合った研究者の協力を得て、日本人としてははじめて参謀総局戦史戦略研究所文書館で史料を請求、複写することができた。これは大きな進展ではあったものの、数多くの新しく公開された一次史料に触れる機会を得たことで、かえってその読解、検討に追われることとなった。それにあわせて２．４．をもう一度あらためて行う必要もあった。また、今年度は先行研究状況の確認や地域の実勢を調査するため、トルコ国内外の諸地域を訪問した。これら調査はオスマン帝国が多様な地域を統合していたことを確認するうえで非常に有効であった。以上を総合すると、本年度は最終年度であるにもかかわらずインプットが多く、アウトプットは少なくなってしまったが、より長期的な視野に立てばオリジナリティある研究をするうえで重要な一年であったと言える。
