项目摘要

フィールド調査としては、調査対象であるボスカ天文台とインドネシアのイスラーム社会において、断食月のフィールドワークを行った。現地のイスラーム社会のフィールドワークでは、インドネシア都市部における断食月の実践の在り方を観察した。イスラーム社会において、モスクは社会の基盤となるインフラストラクチャーの役割をそもそも果たしているが、断食月にはとくに、「日昇」および「日没」の時刻を知らせることで、断食の始まりと終わりを告げる、社会的な「観測者」としての役割が重要となるということが把握できた。天文台の観察では、実際に新月観測を行う現場に同行し、新月がどのような道具やプロセスを用いて観測されるのかを調査した。文献調査としては、イスラームと宗教に関する文献調査、また時間の社会学的・人類学的研究についての先行研究を渉猟した。西欧的な観念の浸透については、西欧近代における時間の観念の浸透には鉄道を始めとする国家的インフラストラクチャーの整備が深くかかわっていること、また近代化＝世俗化の定式が支持できなくなった20世紀後半の世界においては、宗教的時間をめぐるインフラストラクチャーと世俗的時間との共存や対立が興味深いトピックとなっていることなどを学んだ。学会発表としては、科学論の研究者との研究会を行うことで科学技術についての知見を深めるとともに、2020年3月に開催された第 2 回フィールドサイエンス・コロキアム・社会性科研共催研究会「サルを見るようにヒトを見る」にて研究発表を行った。論文・論考執筆については、査読誌『文化人類学』に投稿した論文が受理された。また、フィールド調査の結果を、時間を秩序づけるインフラストラクチャーとわざの関係としてまとめ、『わざの人類学』の分担執筆論考として寄稿した。
