本研究は、アンリ・ベルクソンの第二主著『物質と記憶』（1896）の中心をなす、物質を「イマージュ」として見るという一見不明瞭かつ同書に独特な考え方について、こうした考え方がどのような意図の下で導入されるに至ったかを明らかにし、同書の論証構造の明確化を図ることによって、『物質と記憶』という著作の、他著作に還元されない独自性を示すことを試みるものである。本年度は、前年度の研究をさらに敷衍し、『物質と記憶』公刊の直前にリセ・アンリ4世において行われた講義「形而上学三講」を用いつつ、「イマージュ」概念を、『物質と記憶』に先立つ第一主著である『意識の直接与件についての試論』（1896）を起点として跡付けた。こうした考察により、『物質と記憶』第一章と第四章との関係が明確化される。以上の成果を、日仏哲学会2018年秋季研究大会において発表した。また、前年度に引き続き、今年度7月まで、大学院指導委託制度を利用し、パリ・カトリック学院のカミーユ・リキエ氏のもと在仏研究を行っており、近年公刊されたコレージュ・ド・フランスにおける哲学史についてのベルクソンの諸々の講義等に言及しつつ、ベルクソンの哲学史的背景について、リキエ氏と頻繁に意見交換を行った。さらに、リキエ氏から情報を得て、さらに、今年度の9月から1月まで、ベルクソンの高弟であるジャック・シュヴァリエの記録による、ベルクソンのコレージュ・ド・フランスにおける講義「因果性の観念」（1900-1901）のメモについて、シュヴァリエの子孫の許可を得て、パリ郊外に位置する国立文書館において、調査・整理を行った。
