平成31年度は、一年目と二年目の研究結果から得られた分析方法をもとに、与那国方言のいくつかのモダリティ形式のもつ文法的な意味・機能について明らかにした。一年目と二年目の研究結果で得られたことは、次の通りである。モダリティ形式の文法的な意味・機能の分析は、文の対象的な内容の意味的なタイプという内容と、他の文との関係の中で明らかになる文の様々な機能を分析しながら、その内容と機能に条件づけられる文の形式＝モダリティを明らかにしていく必要がある。そして、話しあいの構造の中にある文と文の相互作用を扱いながら、分析対象の文の本質的な特徴を明らかにする。このことをもとに、３１年度は、与那国方言の終助辞のsaiとnaiというモダリティについて記述して発表した。発表の内容をまとめると、次のようになる。saiは、《まえおき》《気づかせ》を表現している。saiは、《まえおき・意見》《まえおき・たずね》のように自らの発話を完結させる働きを持っている。また、saiは、《たずねる・答える》の話しあいの構造の中に現れる場合、《気づかせる》という働きを持ちながら、聞き手の認識を否定したり、改めさせたりする働きもある。naiは、《補足（つけたし・補い）》を表現する。naiは、話を完結せず、話を《つづける》、《広げる》という働きを持っている。また、《たずねる・答える》の話しあいの構造の中に現れる場合、《補う》という働きを持ちながら、聞き手の認識を肯定しながら、完全な情報の伝達に奉仕している。最終年度は、これらの研究結果を活かし、これまで明らかにしてきた形式も含めて、与那国方言のモダリティ形式をより正確に記述して、総合化し、与那国方言のモダリティ体系を記述した。
