本研究では、経済協力開発機構（OECD）が作成する国際産業連関表を用いて、国際生産ネットワークにおける位置や重要性を示す指標を計測し、それと日本を含む主要国企業の技術水準や領域の変化との関係を定量的に分析する。本来、2020年度に共同研究者の所属するOECDに一年間滞在して研究を進める予定であった。しかし、パンデミックの中で欧州への渡航がかなわず、共同研究者とはオンラインで打合せをしながら国内で研究活動を行ってきたが、2023年3月には、共同研究者の一人が所属するOECDに1週間滞在し、さらにもう一人の海外共同研究者（ベルギー在住）もOECDに集まることができた。3人で分析内容や今後の方針について話し合いながら共同研究を遂行した。OECDが作成して公開している特許の質指数や、国際産業連関表から作成したグローバル・バリューチェーンに関する指標等と、Orbis Intellectual Propertyデータベースとを接続し、世界各国の主要企業の特許出願数やその質と、各企業が属する産業のグローバル・バリューチェーンにおける相対的な位置との関係を分析した。これまでの分析でグローバルな生産ネットワークのより中心に位置する産業に属する企業ほど、より質の高い特許や、より多様な技術分野にまたがった特許を出願している傾向がみられたが、因果関係を考慮し、さらに頑健な分析結果を得るために分析方法の改善を重ねてきた。一方、本研究の基課題における研究成果を査読付きの国際学術雑誌であるResearch Policyに投稿していたが、数回の改訂を重ね、掲載が決定した。当該論文の改訂は、本研究課題の遂行とも非常に関連が強く、本研究課題の共同研究者ともオンラインで打ち合わせを重ねながら、論文の改訂を遂行した。

This study is intended to quantify the relationship between the use of the International Industrial Association (OECD), the location and importance of international production, and the technological level of major Japanese companies. Originally, the OECD co-investigator in 2020 was scheduled to make progress during the year. This analysis is based on the determination of the quality of the business, the determination of the licensing requirements, the determination of the causal relationship, and the determination of the analytical results.
