项目摘要

本年度は主に、教育界における自然主義文学受容に関する検討を進めた。従来の教育史研究・日本近代文学研究の多くは、自然主義と教育界（教育者）の軋轢の歴史を描き出してきたが、本研究は教育関係者こそが自然主義文学を含む近代小説の重要な読者層を形成していた事実を明らかにしようとしてきた。本年度はまず、金港堂の教育雑誌『教育界』の掲載小説に関する論文を公表することができた。同誌は明治35（1902）年頃に小栗風葉や国木田独歩、永井荷風、正宗白鳥らの小説を掲載し、教育関係者の文学欲を叶える場となっていた。拙稿では、掲載誌の一編である独歩「富岡先生」が、同誌のイデオロギー性を揺るがすような両義的表現を持つテクストであることを明らかにした。また、前年度の調査を通じて明らかになった、教育界における島崎藤村ブームとでも呼ぶべき現象についても学会報告を予定していた。報告は2021年度に持ち越しとなったため詳述は避けるが、藤村「破戒」に関する感想文や同作の二次創作を発見することができたため、それらを分析することで同作が教育界に及ぼした影響を指摘する予定だった。新型コロナウィルスの感染拡大は本研究の遂行にも大きな影響を与えた。予定していた資料調査や学会報告もすべて断念せざるを得なかったため、公にできた成果は少ない。研究の最終年度であった本年度の成果は当初の期待を明らかに下回ったが、外出を自粛しこれまでの研究成果を再考する中で、新たに生じた論点も複数存在する。それらを今後解決することで、多くの課題が残された本年度の研究に意味を与えたい。
