项目摘要

『ロバート・オヴ・グロスターの年代記』の新たな校訂版に必要なテクストが収められている写本群の画像収集を引き続き進めている。一部図書館からの画像入手に困難があるが、長編版についてはほぼその収集が終わった。また写本画像からの転写は引き続き行っており、徐々に諸写本の転写テクストをパラレルに並べる作業を開始した。パラレル・テクストの表示方法についてはまだ試行錯誤の段階だが、基本的にはエクセルに一行ずつデータをはめ込んでいき、写本の制作年代順に各テクストを並置する方法をとっている。現在はまだオフラインではあるが、画面上でパラレル・テクストの文字列を検索したり、写本別の語彙リスト作成などの機能を付加する方向で進めている。テクスト転写作業と並行して、本文の翻訳作業を進めている。先史時代のブリテン島におけるケルト諸部族の名称等を判別する際に、中英語のスペリングだけでは理解不能なことが多く、ジェフリー・オブ・モンマス『ブリタニア列王史』やその他初期ブリテン島のケルト人分布に関する文献などを参考にしながら同定をした。典拠作品の同定作業は、今まで主にラテン語作品との関連で調査を行なってきたが、昨年度末からは俗語の典拠作品と関係について照合を開始した。写本間の異同を考慮に入れながら、俗語作品、とりわけ古英語で書かれた作品である『アングロ・サクソン年代記』が『ロバート・オヴ・グロスターの年代記』に取り入れられた過程を詳細に追っている。また俗語作品の取り入れ方と、中世ラテン語で書かれた年代記や編年記の取り入れ方がいかに異なるのかということも原典受容の観点から調査し始めた。
