研究対象であるジョン・ハーディングの『年代記』の現存する写本及び印刷本に残された書き込みの調査を始めた。具体的には、英国の大英図書館に所蔵されている全ての写本と印刷本（MSS Lansdowne 204, Egerton 1992, Harley 661, shelfmark G. 5937, 195.a.3, G.5938, 673.e.1, 673.3.2）および、ボードリアン図書館に所蔵されている全ての写本と印刷本（MSS Arch. Selden B.10, Ashmole 34, Douce 345, Douce 378, shelfmark Lawn e. 344, Mal. 621, Douce HH 283, Shm 716）を調査した。15世紀及び16世紀の読者による書き込みが多く見つかり、今後、それぞれの書き込みの分析を行っていく。例えば、MS Egerton 1992に見られるArthur王に関する記述に懐疑的な読者はイングランドではなくスコットランド出身だと予想されるが、その読者が女性（女王）に関する記述に興味を示していくことは特に注目に値する。スコットランドではイングランドよりも女性を通して王位が継承されることが認められ、強調されていたためである。またMS Douce 345の読者は明らかに国王の廃位に関心があり、そのような読者が『年代記』をどのような目的でどのように読んでいたのかを分析することには意味があるだろう。このような特徴的な書き込みに注目すると同時に多くの読者に共通する書き込み（国王の系譜への関心など）や読み方についても考察していく予定である。
