近年のジェンダー／セクシュアリティ研究における構築主義的アプローチは、ジェンダーとセクシュアリティをセックスという「自然」からラディカルに離床させたとされる。しかし実際のところ、この課題が真に実現されたとは言いがたい。それは「雌雄（男女）の別のあること」と「性的な欲望や快」というセクシュアリティというタームの二つの語義が、いまだ不可分に結びついているためである。このセクシュアリティ概念によって、本質主義と異性愛主義への批判はきわめて不完全なものとなる。本研究は現在のジェンダー／セクシュアリティ論における分析枠組みを精査し、S・フロイトの精神分析によってその困難の乗り越えをはかるものである。８０年代以降のジェンダー／セクシュアリティ研究において導入された社会構築主義的アプローチは、セックスとジェンダーの区分そのものを問い直した。「生物学的で自然な違い」とされるセックスもまた、ひとつの社会的なカテゴリーであるという洞察が提起されたのである。生物学的な性的二型を基盤として、そのうえにジェンダーという社会的性別が築かれるのではない。人びとを男女という相互に排他的な二つのカテゴリーへと分類しようとする動機のもとで、セックスという二項対立的区分が見いだされるのである。性別の二元性が自然に属するというより、むしろ際立って社会的な制度であるという洞察は、異性愛という「自然」にも適用される。実践的な課題は多く残るものの、ここが現在のジェンダー／セクシュアリティ研究の到達点であるとされる。しかし、異性愛主義や本質主義は本当に理論的に乗り越えられたと言えるのだろうか。本年度の研究ではこの観点から、近年のジェンダー／セクシュアリティ論における性別二元論と異性愛主義との関連を考察した。
