本研究は旧麹町・神田区一帯を、文学を中心とする物語言説と同時代の視覚資料（古地図、錦絵、写真）を活用し、幕末から明治期、さらに昭和の終戦期にかけて大きく変動していった都市の風景を考察することで、忘却されていった記憶と新たに形成されていった場の意味を明らかにするものであるが、最初の2022年度は基礎的な資料収集と現地調査等に力を注いだ。しかしながら、いくつかの研究成果も出ている。以下、その中の2点を報告する。冨澤成實は「明治大学史資料センター」ホームページにおいて「阿久悠とお茶の水の風景」を発表した（2022・12配信）。阿久悠の長編小説『最後の楽園　瀬戸内少年野球団・青春編』（1986・8、光文社文庫）には、お茶の水の風景、特に聖橋が白の多い油彩画であるユトリロの風景に例えられていることを取り上げ、作者の美的感性の特長を論じ、同時に1956（昭和31）年当時の大学生が、経済的な苦しさから売血などによって日々の生活をしのぐ様子なども指摘し、当時の時代背景の一端が考察されている。そして、駿河台や神保町はもとより、浅草や新宿、上野などの映画館や貸本屋、寄席、ジャズ喫茶など、当時の東京と学生文化との関わりが紹介されている。また、吉田悦志は明治大学史資料センター刊「大学史紀要」第29号（2023・3・30）に「神田駿河台の文化地層（２）－『風俗画報』を手掛かりにして」を発表した。本稿では、明治期の『風俗画報』の記述を詳細に読み解き、また国土地理院「デジタル標高地形図」を丹念に調べることにより、お茶の水地区を流れる神田川の歴史的・地理的・文化的意味を再考することにより、なぜこのあたりの流域だけが急な渓谷を形成しているのかを推察するものである。これによって、慶長の神田川開削工事は、ある程度の自然の地形を生かして川筋がつくられたものである可能性について提言した貴重な論考となっている。
