本研究では、人の持つ言葉の知識の単位を、構文（形式と意味の対）と捉える。さらに、人は言語表現の意味や機能を理解する際に、様々な事象に関するフレーム（背景知識）を想起すると考える。その上で、人の持つ構文の意味と機能に関する知識を、フレームでどこまで記述可能かを解明する。「フレーム・構文分析」の手法で日英語の構文の対応づけを試み、従来未着手であった、構文の機能と、発話参与者間の関係に関して人が持つ知識である「相互フレーム」との関連を考察する。研究局面は、１）日英語の対応する構文の抽出、２）日英語の構文の機能の分析、３）構文機能と相互フレームとの関連性の考察、４）成果発表と公開の４フェーズに分けられる。当初の予定は次の通りであった。2022年度は、主に１）を行う。その際、アノテータ・プログラマーの協力を得て、日英語パラレルコーパスの分析を行い、その結果をデータベースに入力する。2023年度は、１）を継続しつつ、２）について、Croft, Perekなど、海外研究協力者と検討を重ねる。2024年度は、１）、２）を継続しつつ、３）について、マルチリンガルフレームネット、グローバルフレームネット・プロジェクトの海外研究協力者と検討を重ねる。2025年度は、国際会議・国内会議発表、論文、著作にて主に４）を行う。2022年度は、予定通り１）日英語の対応する構文の抽出をおこなった。加えて、当初は2023年度に実施する予定であった２）日英語の構文の機能の分析、2024年度に実施予定であった３）構文機能と相互フレームとの関連性の考察を、海外研究協力者と議論しつつ行い、成果を上げることができた。
