研究総括とイギリスの調査を担当する根田克彦は，イギリス政府の飲食店に対するコロナ対策に関する文献と資料を収集した。イギリスでは，ロックダウンで多くの飲食店が閉鎖や営業時間の短縮を強制され，大きな経済的打撃を受けた。飲食店のための支援策として，都市計画規制が一時的に緩和されて，路上での営業やデリバリー，異業種間の土地利用の転換が容易になった。その一時的規制緩和を，イギリスはコロナ終息後も継続した。実は，イギリスは2010年代以降に，タウンセンターにおける事業の展開を容易にするため都市計画規制を緩和する方針を示していたが，それに対する抵抗が強かった。それを，新型コロナウイルス規制を契機として実現したのである。その過程を，根田克彦(2022)：イギリスの飲食店に対する新型コロナウイルス対策とそのタウンセンター政策への影響．E-Journal GEO，17，319-337，として発表した。研究分担者である大和里美は，ロンドンとパリを調査した。ロンドンの観光地では、日本人のマスク装着率は目立って高く、他にも人種によってマスクへの考え方やCOVID-19に対する意識の違いが見られた。パリでは、空き店舗など街の状況や飲食店・観光施設の対応などを観察するとともに、フランス人3名にパリの街の変化とCOVID-19によって観光の目的地選択について変化があったかについて聞き取り調査を行った。シャンゼリゼ通りの歩行者天国も2年ぶりに復活し、チュイルリー庭園ではクリスマス・マーケットも開催されていた。COVID-19によって多くの飲食店が閉店したとのことであったが、特に2回目の訪問時には、PCR検査などの規制もなく1回目と比較して閉店している飲食店も少なくなっているようであった。
